Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 28, 2026
Screen & Sound Recorder is a Chrome extension that records your screen together with your computer's sound, your microphone and, if you choose, your camera. This policy explains what the extension accesses, where that data is kept, and what it never does.
In short: everything stays on your computer. The extension has no servers, no accounts, no analytics and no advertising. Nothing you record or set is ever sent to the developer or to anyone else.
What the extension accesses
| Data | When | Why |
|---|---|---|
| The screen, window or tab you pick, and your computer's sound | Only after you press Start Recording and choose what to share in Chrome's own picker | To make the recording |
| Microphone | While the recorder window is open and the Microphone switch is on | To show the level meter and to record your voice |
| Camera | While the recorder window is open and the Camera switch is on | To show your camera preview and to record it |
| Your recording files | When you play, rename or delete a recording on the Recordings page | To play the file, save it under a new name, or remove it |
Chrome and macOS ask for your permission before the extension can use the screen, the microphone or the camera, and you can turn this permission off at any time.
Where your data is kept
- Recordings are stored inside the extension while they are being made, then saved as files in the folder you name inside your Downloads folder.
- Recording details such as name, length, size and a small preview image are kept in the extension's storage on your computer, so the Recordings page can list them.
- Settings such as your chosen microphone, camera, quality and save folder are kept in Chrome's storage on your computer.
File access
If you turn on "Allow access to file URLs" for the extension, it reads only the recording files it saved itself, so you can play and rename them on the Recordings page. It does not open, read or list any other files on your computer.
What the extension never does
- It never uploads, sends or shares your recordings, your microphone or camera input, your files or your settings.
- It never collects personal information, browsing history or usage statistics.
- It never sells data, shows ads or uses data for any purpose other than recording and managing your recordings.
- It never loads or runs code from the internet. All of its code is included in the extension.
Deleting your data
- Delete a recording on the Recordings page to remove both its details and its file.
- Removing the extension from Chrome deletes everything it stored inside Chrome. Recording files in your Downloads folder stay there until you delete them.
